How do I notify the owner of a found item?

Updated over 4 months ago

Sometimes you can be fairly certain who the owner of a found item is.
This may be the case, for example, when:

  • The owner’s contact details are written on the item itself.

  • A potential owner contacts you by phone.

In both situations, it is important to inform the owner. iLost offers a notification feature that allows you to send a message via email and/or SMS.

Ways to send a notification

  1. During registration

    • When registering the item, click "Send owner notification" to immediately send a message to the available contact details.

  2. After registration

    • If you find the contact details later, or if the owner contacts you directly,
go to the item page, click "More actions", and select "Send owner notification".

After sending the notification

  • The person will receive a message containing a link to the item on the iLost website.

  • The owner must still claim the item online.

  • You then process the claim in the usual way.

Note: Even if an item is not published online (only registered), you can still notify the owner. Only this person will be able to see the item on the iLost website and claim it. This feature is often used by hotels.
